About Ribera del Duero
Ribera del Duero is located in Castilla y Leon in northwestern Spain, around the city of Valladolid and along the Duero River. Most of the production takes place in the province of Burgos, between Roa and San Esteban de Gomez. The two main areas are called the Golden mile and the Golden triangle.
The wines are made almost exclusively from the Tinto Fino grape, which is considered a mutation of the Tempranillo grape from Rioja. The wines can often develop in bottles for 5-10 years or even longer for the finer wines and the better vintages.
The wines come almost exclusively from red grapes. Most of the production is Tinto Fino. As in Rioja, the wines produced are mainly complex wines for ageing.
