About Northern Rhône
The northern part of the Rhone Valley is the area between the city of Lyon in the north to the city of Montélimar in the south. The Northern Rhône differs from the Southern Rhône by a more fertile climate. It rains more.
In the northern Rhone, more powerful red wines based on the Syrah grape dominate, which has its home here. The wines are recognised by the spicy and peppery aroma. Other elements are charcuterie and dark berries. The wines are ageable and often tannic.
The most famous areas are Hermitage, Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie.
